Southern Africa is seeing a growing movement of discipleship, and local churches are not just seeking evangelists—they are eager to train and send missionaries from within their own communities. The church is ready to expand its reach both locally and to neighboring countries, and Base is excited to be part of this next generation of mission mobilization.

In partnership with Awana Ministry, we are equipping churches across the region with effective training. To learn more about what’s happening in Southern Africa, see the countries listed below. Zambia

Joseph Mbange, a missionary who first joined the sports ministry training in Zimbabwe, has grown in his role with Awana, leading to greater opportunities throughout Zambia. In 2022, during a meeting with MissionConnect, it became clear that Zambia could serve as a hub for raising funds to support ministry work. This led to the creation of the Umodze BAM Center (Umodze means Unity), which will generate funds to support missions training and sending.

In 2024, Awana Zambia's Director, Jeff Kantumoya, invited Base trainers to work alongside Awana to train churches in Lusaka and the Copper Belt region. This training helped prepare multiple churches to use sports as a ministry tool, building a mission force for Zambia’s future.

Zimbabwe

In 2014, we launched the first sports ministry training with Awana, bringing together missionaries from Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The training focused on using sports as a ministry tool, which was embraced by many churches. Since then, camps have continued, and we look forward to further collaboration with Awana in Zimbabwe.
