Interrupt: stop the continuous progress of (an activity or process).
COVID-19 interrupted many things. In the definition of interrupt above we see a stop to the continuous progress. This doesn’t mean it stops things completely or indefinitely, but merely stops the continuous progress of an activity or process.
Base is no different. Our normal continuous progress for our 2020 summer ministry programming was interrupted. We canceled our normal ministry activities. This meant our 5-person team sports camps and short team missions teams in 2020 were canceled.
This does not mean we stopped ministry completely or indefinitely. It was an interruption. We continued to still press on in ministry and looked forward to seeing ministry continue during and after the quarantine.
We still supported partner churches who used materials and training from Base. We found new ways of accomplishing our mission of empowering young people to continually live and share their faith in the global communities they serve. We pressed on in active faith as God led us and guided us. We trained churches in WA through a virtual setting and we generated new ways to partner with churches to accomplish our mission.
One of those new ways is a variation of our traditional sports camps called Backyard Sports Club. Designed to help parents lead spiritual conversations with their kids, Backyard Sports Club can be done with minimal equipment in a family’s home and backyard. This is in direct response to churches asking for material that can be used in smaller settings.
So, even though COVID interrupted our programs in 2020, we are still empowering our global partners to develop young Christian leaders who love to share Jesus!
Our mission has not been interrupted however! Empowering young people to continually live and share their faith in the global communities they serve is more important and the interruption of our programs has not stopped our mission. Thank you for your continued support, partnership, and prayers alongside us during the interruption.
